The return of DC-formed, LA-residing pop duo GEMS was the highlight of last month in music for us. We've been following the path of vocalist Lindsay Pitts and polymath Clifford John Usher for some time, and now their route is heading towards a debut full-length release, Kill The One You Love, out on 30th October, we couldn't be more excited. Having already aired the hugely atmospheric 'Living As A Ghost', Pitts and Usher are stepping it up another gear, breathing effervescent and expansive new life into their traditionally tightly-knit compositions with 'Tangled Memories'. Sure, it still has that dreamy undertone we've come to love from GEMS, but the sweetness of Pitts' vocal hook, the boldness of the percussion, and in fact, the overall glossiness of Usher's instrumentation are all welcome additions indeed. - DC
